A Late Bloomer Is The Salt Of The Earth!

Look out world. Here he comes. What you ask? Why it’s the late bloomer!

What is a late bloomer anyway? There are a million answers for that question.

Most people would accept the idea that it is someone who reaches his potential latter than his average peers.

There can be a million reasons for this phenomena? And, I would venture to say, they are all valid. I don’t think anyone particularly wants to develop at a latter stage. It just happens. And, what are you going to do? That’s right, you just go with it. More appropriately, I am sure just about anyone agrees, that it is better to reach your potential latter; rather then never!

Actually, there are many positive characteristics to be said for this type of person.

*Patience is one hallmark.

During the process of “developing”, most late bloomers develop a hard core streak of patience. That’s right they don’t give up. A perfect example of that is Abraham Lincoln. He endured failure after failure before he finally got elected as President of the United States. Or, for that matter, what about Richard Nixon. Remember way back then? He was beaten by Jack Kennedy when he ran as a presidential candidate.

So what does Nixon do? He goes back to California, his home state, and runs for Governor. The people of California didn’t want anything to do with him. He was soundly beaten. He told the press, “You won’t have Nixon to kick around anymore.” He went into “retirement”. Everybody thought that was the end of him. But, Richard Nixon didn’t know he was “finished”. Heck no, he came right back and ran again for President and won by one of the largest landslides in presidential history.

*How about endurance.

The ability to keep on “keeping on”. That’s right. Someone like this has the ability to keep trucking on, regardless of how tough it is. It is obvious, this type of person would never “develop” if he or she didn’t keep hanging in there.

*Don’t forget “stability”.

For sure, owns stability. Why? Well, just think about it. Before he is recognized as an achiever, he really doesn’t have much ego gratification. He just hangs in there and keeps on digging in, doing his work and developing his talents and projects.

No doubt he endures insults and ridicule along with the annoyances of just plain living. There is nobody around telling him how great he is. Or, stroking his ego. But, hey, not to worry. Mr. Late bloomer doesn’t fly off into a tangent. He hangs in there and keeps on keeping on.

*Let’s not forget “determination”.

Now here is a giant when it comes to determination. Nobody or nothing is going to deter this guy from relinquishing his focus on his goal. Like a pit bull pulling on his favorite toy. No way man, are you going to take that toy away from him.

*And, please, please…lets not forget “spirit”.

Or, more appropriately, you “gotta have heart”. No question about it. If you are going to be a “doer” or “achiever” in this world, you must have “spirit”. Well, when you are by definition a slow in developing, there is no getting around it…you possess spirit. In another words, you do things with gusto. When you get knocked down, you get right back up and give it another go. Right on!

*Intelligence.

Maybe it’s innate intelligence. Or, whatever, but late bloomers have smarts. Why? Because deep down inside, late bloomers “knows” they are right on the money. It is just a matter of time, before they cash in on the “thing”…idea, project, career or whatever. In spite of all of life’s contradictions, criticisms, and obstacles!

*Last, but certainly not least, we have the unique attribute of “not looking for a reason to fail”.

A lot of self-help advisors make a big deal out of this. That’s right, a lot of people really are looking for excuses to fail. But, not the late bloomer. He or she keeps their head to the grindstone. Absolutely refusing to quite. They will not accept failure or excuses to fail.

NOW LETS MEET THE LATE BLOOMER, AFTER HE HAS “ARRIVED”!

*Since he is “late for the party”, usually you find an older and wiser individual.

In another words, he or she is not quite as “quick on the draw” as your typical superstar. Don’t kid yourself, this guy knows he is not bullet proof. Because, having spent a lot of time in the ranks, he has had his share of bumps along the way.

I can relate my Marine Corps experience to this matter. The officers that came up through the enlisted ranks, where usually well respected by their men. Because, they weren’t as cocky and arrogant as many of their fellow officers who graduated from college with Officer’s Bars on their shoulders. Not all mind you, but certainly a big chunk of them.

*You will usually find this guy or gal is more respectful of the opinions of others, rather it pertains to business or personal life.

Why? Because, having been in the ranks of fellow workers or “worker bees”, he knows what it is like, and can relate well to the people around him.

*And, he or she is not normally an ego maniac.

There are plenty of these negative types around, but normally they are not late bloomers. Why? Usually it’s because of the greater maturity this individual has acquired.

*Lastly, and thank God for small favors, late bloomers are usually much slower to anger.

That’s right. They don't get all excited and teed off at the drop of a hat. We all know the type. There again, late bloomers usually have been molded by frustration and setbacks; consequently, they have a strong reserve and immunity built up for setbacks and frustration. Meaning, they don't take their disappointments out on the first living breathing human being that is nearest to them. See Stand for Your Greatness
